Monica Joy Mullins, 59, of Fort Scott died Monday, Oct. 20, 2025, at the home of her father in Mound City, Kan.  Monica was born on Dec. 30, 1965, in Kansas City, Kan., to Gary Richard and Eva May (Alumbaugh) Goebel. Monica attended schools in Mound City and graduated from Jayhawk Linn High School with the Class of 1984.

Following graduation, she attended Washburn University in Topeka to study law.  However, on April 6, 1992, she followed her heart and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where she served as a cryptologist learning multiple languages. Upon her honorable discharge on May 1, 2001, Monica assisted her family members in Iowa and Louisiana before returning to southeast Kansas and finding her special work family at Diehl Banwart Bolton CPA P.A., in Fort Scott where she enjoyed her job as IT specialist. Monica enjoyed reading, and spoiling her nieces and nephews. But she was happiest with her two sisters while enjoying one of their numerous sister trips hiking or white water rafting.

Monica was preceded in death by her mother, Eva May Goebel, on Oct. 28, 2019, and her brother, Wayne Anthony Goebel on May 7, 2021.

Survivors include her father, Gary Goebel; two sisters, Terri (Mike) Phillis and Lorinda (John) Needham; sister-in-law Cyndi Goebel; 11 nieces and nephews, Michael, Becky, Chris, Matthew and Ashley Goebel, Adrienne, Logan and Courtney Phillis, Morgan (Atnoinne) Brown, Truman (Kylee) Needham, and Isabella Needham; and her work family at DBB.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, at Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City Chapel. In honoring Monica's memory, the family suggests contributions to Tunnels to Towers Foundation which helps provide homes for veterans and first responders. Donations may be mailed to Schneider Funeral Home, 319 Chestnut, Mound City, Kan. 66056. Friends and family may leave online condolences at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
