Paul W. Jones Sr. died on June 16, 2023, and lived to be, 79 years, 3 months, and 5 days.  He was born on March 11, 1944, in Olathe, Kan. (In Grandma Nora’s house at 204 South Church Street).

He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Willa Mae Jackson Jones, and by his parents, Clifford L. Jones (Fannie) and Mary Jane Doles Faulkner (Tom); sisters, Alice Swearengin (Jim) and Brenda Graham; brothers, Carl Jones, Sr. (Rusty) and Marvin R. Jones (Kathy); and four daughters, Julie Brown, Kimberley Nave, Cindi Smith, and Virgilena Mae Shriver (Chip).

He is survived by his son, Paul W. Jones, Jr., of La Cygne, Kan.; and his brothers, Richard A. Jones (Linda) of Bolivar, Mo. and Donald L. Jones (Jon) of Pflugerville, Texas. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory 10 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. 

Most of Paul’s work history was in the bricklaying and building business, building many businesses in the local area. Paul saw a need to open a gathering place for the residents of Prescott, Kan., to mix and mingle and opened a bar there and operated it for many years. Paul delighted in sitting out in his garage listening to the old ministerials from the old-time church music. He also was a garage sale and auction sale aficionado, always looking for the best deal of the day.

The inurnment service will be at Prescott Cemetery, Prescott, Kan., on Saturday July 15, 2023, at 1 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held directly after the inurnment at 89 South Mine Creek Dr., Mound City, Kan., 66056, directly after the graveside services on Saturday July 15, 2023. 

The family suggests contributions in Paul’s memory to Gentiva Hospice Pittsburg, Kan., in care of Schneider Funeral Home, 816 Main Street Pleasanton, Kan., 66075. Friends and family may leave online condolences at www.schneiderfunerals.com.

Nobodys wins Blue Mound co-ed softball tournament

The team called Nobodys wins the Blue Mound 4th of July co-ed softball tournament on July 5. This year the tournament consisted of eight teams. The Nobodys is Keith Morrell’s team and has been a part of the softball tournament since it started three years ago.

Pleasanton 12-14 baseball wins championship
