Loren Neal Reynolds was born on Aug. 21, 1936, in Scott Township, Linn County, Kan., to Volney Preston Reynolds and Hilja Sivia Henrikson Reynolds. He joined two sisters Eleanor Eileen and Vivian Maxine. He passed away in the early morning hours of Aug. 20, 2016, just hours shy of his 80th birthday.

As a child, Loren attended Oak Grove School and later La Cygne Rural High School. He graduated in 1954 as salutatorian for his senior class. After graduation, he attended Midwest Bible College in Stanberry, Mo. After two years, he returned to the farm where he grew up and continued to farm the rest of his life.

Loren married Rose Marie Miller on July 16, 1961. They shared more than 55 years together. To this union were born four children, two daughters Janet and Ruth; and two sons David and Larry.

Loren was a member of the Church of God (7th Day). Throughout the years, he served in various roles for the church, including Sabbath School teacher and lay speaker. There were two things that Loren truly loved—music and studying the Bible. He instilled a love for both in his children and the grandchildren. The last few years he attended Beacon of Truth Church in Richmond, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Vivian Carlton; all of his aunts and uncles; as well as many cousins.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie, and daughter Ruth of the home; daughter Janet; sons Larry and David (Laura), all of La Cygne. He also had five grandchildren Heather (Forest) Sears, Emily (John) Knight, Samuel, Paul and John Reynolds; and five great-grandchildren Tirzah, Jaylah and Kierah Sears, and Lucas and Hailey Knight. He is also survived by his sister Eileen, Clinton, Mo.; and sisters-in-law Dollie Wallace and Joy Walter, both of St. Joseph, Mo.; his sister’s children Vern Batley, Mike Batley, Bill Sutcliffe, Hal Sutcliffe and Kathy Gander.

Funeral service was at the Schneider Funeral Home & Crematory, La Cygne Chapel on Tuesday, Aug. 23, with burial in the Brooklyn Cemetery. Pastors Reuben Esh and Tim Hinds officiated. The family suggests donations be made to the La Cygne Historical Society or the La Cygne Library.
