Robert E. Weickert, age 80, Pleasanton, Kan., passed away Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024. He was born on Aug. 12, 1944, on the family farm near La Cygne, Kan., the son of Frank and Opal Michaels Weickert. Bob was one of four children and grew up on the family farm. He attended the one room school, Prairie Home, for grades one through six. He then attended La Cygne Rural High School.  After high school, he attended Kansas State University for two years. Bob served his country in the Army National Guard for nineteen years. He received several awards over the years, including the Bates County Pasture Improvement Award. The award he was most proud of was induction into the Kansas Fair and Festivals Hall of Fame, in 2016.

Bob and wife Marilyn were involved in the Linn County Fair for fifty-two years. Bob took the lead on updating and improving the bucking chutes, fencing the livestock pastures, and renovating the stairs and catwalk leading to the announcer stand in the arena. He took pride in making the condition of the arena as good as it could be. Bob was on the board for Rural Water District #2, Peoples Telecommunications, and president of the Jaycees. While he was president of Farm Bureau he traveled to Washington D.C. and met President Bill Clinton. Bob was a kind hearted man who never met a stranger. He took time to get to know people and was careful in how he answered questions so he would not offend anyone. He enjoyed watching the PRCA and truck and tractor pulls on the Cowboy Channel while sitting in his easy chair.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim Weickert. Bob is survived by his wife Marilyn; sister, Wanda Weickert; brother, Charlie Weickert and wife, Mary; sister-in-law, Marguerite Weickert; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Pleasanton Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Linn County Fair. Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
